MAC Neutral Cool and Warm Palettes: A Review

Let’s cut to the chase: most people do not have time to bounce from palette to palette to get the perfect eye look. While stopping by MAC to pick up concealer, I noticed my salesperson’s gorgeous makeup. She had an autumn-inspired gold and auburn sultry eye that was outstanding. When I asked her what colors she used, she picked up the MAC Warm Neural Palette X 15 and showed me how she applied the shadow. I was hooked and bought it. The colors are versatile and can be used to create looks for any season.

Cool Neutral X 15

Then, guess what? I discovered MAC had the same X 15 palette in cool shades. I thought about buying the palette. It’s not cheap at $85.00. I compared it to some palettes I already own and decided that in my opinion, the quality of the MAC shadows was better than some of the palettes I have in my possession so I purchased the cool palette and cleaned out some of my old stuff. I have to extremely grateful  younger cousins who were more than happy to take my gently-used hand me downs.

Warm Neural X 15

I already stated that I love the versatility of these colors; they are also durable and easy to apply. The shades are also easy to remove with makeup wipes. One tip the MAC makeup artist gave me is that the gold shades in the warm palette (bottom left) can be used as a highlight on your cheeks! Talk about multi-tasking! SO, in my opinion, it was well worth the money spent on these two lush palettes. I highly recommend them if you’re looking to make your makeup collection more practical and trim down on palette overload. Once I bought these, I was able to purge palettes that were sitting in my drawers. Check out your local MAC store or online to get more info.

Get Makeup-Ready For Fall: MAC Edition

Hey all! The dog days of summer are winding down (boo) and if there is one thing I am looking forward to in the fall – it’s fall makeup. I find that jewel tones are the most flattering on my skin so I love the color variety offered in autumn cosmetics. I thought I would take a moment to share my favorite MAC fall items. Some items are new and some are old favorites.

Bottom to Top:Heaux,Instigator,Studded Kiss Gloss (Top): Rebel Liners:(L)Currant ( R) Ruby Woo

When choosing my lip colors from MAC, I stuck to shades of berry, plum and oxblood. I picked up one to-go sized lipgloss on Rebel, which is a cross between a berry and plum. Currant is a staple in my lip pencil wardrobe and Ruby Woo is a new purchase. I have heard amazing things about Ruby Woo and plan to pair it with some of my non-MAC products or wear it on its own. I have no complaints, just praise, for all of these lip products. I have a huge love for the amplified lipstick Heaux, which is a vibrant berry. All lipsticks apply smoothly and are incredibly moisturizing.

Veluxe Pearl Fusion Fabulous Three

Veluxe Pearl Fusion Tres Chic

L to R: Tres Chic, Fabulous Three

I can’t say enough great things about MAC’s  Veluxe Pearl Fusion eyeshadow trios. Tres Chic and Fabulous Three contain perfect fall shades, including moss and cabernet. I’ve been having a blast playing with color combos from the trios and pairing them with my other palettes. The shadows are highly pigmented and eye-catching. My husband, who never notices my makeup, told me I looked like a goddess when I used the Tres Chic trio. That speaks volumes. I used Mac’s Groundwork Paint Pot as a base and it held the shadow on for  eight hours plus. There was a tiny-teeny bit of fall out with the lighter shades but it was a small enough amount to remove easily.

Also, I included in the photos  a few additional fave  MAC items in my repertoire. Pictured are Cubic blush and shadows in Wedge, Ricepaper and Club. Hit up MAC to check out my faves and their latest fall products.

BH Cosmetics Review: Flawless Brow Gel and Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil

Hello there! It’s nice to be back after a much needed vacation. I thought I’d start off nice and easy  with a review of some pre-vacation purchases from BH Cosmetics. In the last few months, I’ve become much more focused on my brows. I am a die hard fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products but I decided to give a shot to brow products from a brand that I have had such good results from in recent months.

First stop: Flawless Brow Gel in Clear. I’ve tried a wax brow pencil from Nyx that basically did nothing at all but I was totally confident that gel would give more staying power. I was right. The clear gel goes on wet but dries quickly and holds those brows in place. This product far exceeds its $6.00 price tag.

Next up: Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil in Brunette. Let me restate, I am in love with Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Whiz and Dip Brow Pomade. However, I always love to have a back up product. The Studio Pro pencil has the same structure as the Brow Whiz – brush on one end, pencil on the other. Are they the same? I’d say similar but not exact. I get better coverage on my eyebrow grays from the Anastasia. The bottom line is I really do like the HD Pencil and will continue to use it as an alternative. It’s definitely  a fabulous alternative at $5.00.

I suggest to my readers to definitely check out these two brow products. The price point is excellent and the quality is stellar. I am a huge fan of BH Cosmetics and have loved trying out all of there products.  More product reviews are on the way, so stay tuned!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette Review

Chocolate and I have a fabulous relationship. Months back, I discovered that Too Faced Cosmetics had a chocolate bar themed shadow palette, I knew I’d eventually get my hands on it.  I waited, read reviews and finally took the plunge. Does this decadent palette live up to the hype?

DSC_0038I very much feel that yes, the Chocolate Bar palette is worth the hype. First, the colors are versatile and can be used to create eye looks for every season. The colors are pretty neutral but can be built up or applied with a lighter hand to achieve a bold or natural look. The palette contains two brow bone shades – one shimmer(Champagne Truffle, bottom right) and one matte(White Chocolate,Top Left). Champagne Truffle and White Chocolate can be used as a brow highlight, a lid color or even a face highlight. That’s a bonus for me especially since I love products that multi-task.

The palette is a mix of matte and shimmer shades. My personal favorite shades are Hazelnut, which makes the perfect crease color and Cherry Cordial, which makes a nice lid shade for natural looks. The colors are pigmented and apply smoothly. Did I mention the palette smells like chocolate? It’s heavenly. The bottom line is this palette hits a home run for me. Definitely check it out.

Macy’s 9-Piece Beauty Bag: A Peek Inside!

Bathing suit shopping is painful for me. When I found a brand that I fell in love with and knew my size, I became more comfortable ordering suits online. Macy’s had some great selections of the suits I love, so I went online to pick up some new swim gear. Lucky for me, Macy’s was running a promo that if you spend $50 on swimwear, you get a special 9-piece beauty bag, featuring high end brands, for only $25. A quick look at the items and brands and I was totally on board.

What’s included:

  • Laura Geller Mattifying Spackle Deluxe Mini 0.5 oz
  • Too Faced Sun Bunny Clamshell Bronzer Deluxe Mini
  • Tarte Deluxe Maracuja Rainforest Glow Deluxe Mini
  • Butter LONDON Nail File
  • Jack Black SPF Shea Butter Lip Balm Deluxe Mini
  • Essie Deluxe Mini Nail Polish in A-List
  • Zirh Cleanser Deluxe Mini
  • Pink Hairband
  • Cosmetics Bag

I love these kind of goody bags. It’s like Christmas morning when I open these up. The bag is a beautiful summery pink and perfect for travel. The Jack Black Lip Balm has SPF25, which is needed to protect my lips from the sun’s harmful rays. I am a huge fan of Essie and the color red,  so my fingers and toes will be sporting A List this summer. I tried Sun Bunny from Too Faced this morning and I love it! It gave my face the perfect shade of bronze, was easy to blend and looked very natural. I will be purchasing this in the full size. I am antsy to try the rest of the goodies from the beauty bag and I will  let you know my thoughts.

Coloured Raine Lip Paint: A Review

2015-05-12 13.23.27-2

Mars & Marshmallow

Hi all! Popping my head in for another review. This time I am reviewing an indie brand called Coloured Raine, whose products are creating quite the buzz in the beauty world. In recent months, I have tried and reviewed several liquid to matte lip products but I must tell you that Coloured Raine’s Lip Paint is by far my favorite.

2015-05-12 13.25.56

Mars & Marshmallow

Marshmallow is very similar, from my understanding, to Lime Crime’s Velvetine Cashmere. I don’t own Cashmere but based on the pictures I have seen and compared, Marshmallow is, in my opinion, a better and more spot on ‘greige’. I am in love with Marshmallow but I am even more gaga over Mars. Mars, to me, is the perfect ’90’s color. It’s a sassy, mauve brown color that I believe would be flattering on most skin tones.

There’s no smell from these lip paints, which is a bonus. They are easily to apply and manipulate (layering and shaping). They dry within a minute but are not drying to your lips. I keep forgetting I am wearing it. The lip paints also survived the kiss test and came off somewhat easily with a makeup wipe (I did have to apply a bit of pressure). I plan on adding quite a few more to my collection as soon as possible. Coloured Raine Customer Service gets an A+ since the company shipped my items quickly and emailed me with constant tracking updates.

ColourPop Lippie Stix and Super Shock Cheek Review

Hi all! Just jumping on here quickly to give you a review on the ColourPop items I’ve tried out in recent weeks. I’ve never tried ColourPop before so I only purchased two products for a test run. This review will be short and sweet as I am working on another assignment and my time is limited. Fear not, friends, I will be back to babble at you plenty next week!

ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Prenup $8

This velvety blush glides on smoothly and evenly. It’s so smooth you could even use your fingers to apply it. I love this particular color because it’s a cross between a posey pink and a lilac. I think it would be flattering on most skin tones. The blush has staying power, which is another bonus. The color was bright and did not fade.

ColourPop Lippie Stix in Cake $5

Lippie Stix are super creamy and glide on easy. They moisturize like crazy and are ridiculously pigmented. Cake is a bright coral, which is perfect for summer. I really enjoyed the color and the texture of this lipstick.

In short, ColourPop is another reasonably priced, high-quality cosmetic company. I look forward to trying more of their lines. I’ve heard fabulous things about their shadows and highlighter so those will certainly be amongst my next purchases.

LAVANILA Rollerball Perfume: A Review

I may be weird because of this but I am obsessed with smelling like a cupcake. A few years back, I had gotten a sample of LAVANILA Pure Vanilla perfume. I was hooked from that moment on. No matter the season, Pure Vanilla is my fragrance rotation. It’s a sweet scent without being cloying.   The perfume is soft and yes, it does make you smell like a cupcake.

I’ve been toying for awhile with the idea of buying the LAVANILA Rollerball Trio. As the title indicates, it’s three rollerball perfumes of the LAVANILA scents: vanilla coconut, pure vanilla, and vanilla coconut. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like the grapefruit and coconut variations since I am not a fan of either fruit smell. I was able to try a sample of each and that weighed the scale in favor of making this purchase. The coconut is a summery scent that reminds me of the beach and cupcakes – not that those two things go together, but the scent is heavenly. Grapefruit is a melange of sweet scent of vanilla and the crisp notes of the citrus. Again, this rollerball is a winner.

The scent is long-lasting for each rollerball. The vials are glass but not heavy. I love these rollerballs for travel since they are so lightweight. I plan on taking them with me during my summer travels. This product definitely gets a HUGE thumbs up!

Sneak Peek! Coming Soon….

2015-04-29 16.44.51I feel horrible since I haven’t had a chance to blog in the last two days. I am on an assignment so it’s hard for me to break away to write. I wanted to wish you all a Happy Friday and give you a sneak peak of what I have planned in the coming weeks.

  • A review of my Mother’s Day gift, the Keurig 2.0 K560. It works as a traditional, single serve Keurig, but has the ability to make a carafe of coffee.
  • I’m eagerly awaiting a shipment of Colour Pop cosmetics. This is my first time trying it so I will give all my thoughts on it with a review.
  • I want to share some of my MAC Cosmetics favorites – some new and some old favorites.
  • “Son Vs. Mom” in video games, coming soon. I know am sure he will whip my butt.
  • In search of some new healthy snacks to try. Please make suggestions 🙂
  • Of course, I will post about my fitness progress.

Please let me know in the comments some suggestions for products you think I should try out or  new coffees for my Keurig. I’d really love some suggestions for VS. videos games (go easy on me, I’m rusty!). Mostly, I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Target Haul: E.LF. Moisturizing Lipstick, E.L.F Lipstain & Wet ‘N Wild Fergie Collection

I swear, some weeks I should just move in to Target. As per usual, last week I was picking up birthday cards, communion cards and random groceries. Also, per usual, I had to make a pit stop in the cosmetics aisle. Immediately, I hit up the e.l.f. section.

I spotted two products I wanted to test out after hearing raving reviews. The first is the e.l.f Moisturizing Lipstick in Party in the Buff. The lipstick is truly the perfect nude color and true to its title, is extremely moisturizing. I have excessively dry lips so I will take all the moisture I can! The color is really a true nude and very pigmented. I love a bit more of a blush color in my nude, so I layered the e.l.f. with B.H. Cosmetics Forever Nude Aqua Ligloss to achieve the color that was perfect for me.

Secondly, I picked up e.l.f Lipstain in Crimson Crush. The applicator (actually the whole product) resembles a felt-tipped marker. It applies like one, too. The color is stunning and easy to apply. The color is buildable; you can layer it to make it more pigmented or  layer and blot with a tissue to get the perfect stained look. I loved the stained look because it reminded me of the stain a cherry lollipop or popsicle would leave behind.

Last, but certainly not least, I picked up the Fergie Centerstage Collection To Reflect Shimmer Powder in Rose Champagne Glow. I bought it upon the recommendation of YouTube beauty guru EmilyNoel83. I was a bit on the fence about purchasing it but I figured for the price, what could go wrong? Emily was totally on the money. I love wearing this shimmer over my cheek contour and it just glows. It’s subtle but beautiful.

Huge thumbs up for these products. The price is right and the quality is fabulous.
